Description
Apart from wandering around the castle it is possible to do
several short walks from this point. The following takes in most
of the possibilities. Below the castle is the river Lochy. There
is a tarred path going up the river side 400m past the pitch and
put as far as the road bridge in front of the high school. Either
return back along the footpath or cross the road bridge and turn
left down the road to Caol. This follows the river on the other
side for 400m when you can cross back over the river by the
footbridge next to the raiway bridge. Once over the bridge you
can take the footpath down the river side. The path crosses over
the outflow from Alcans hydro electric scheme. Then it follows the
river and eventually reaches the village of Inverlochy. Turn left
as you enter the village. A short walk through the houses brings
you to a foot bridge over the railway. Immediately over this go
over the style on the left and head up and across the field to the
plinth which marks the site of the battle of Inverlochy. This is
a very good viewpoint with scenic, historical and industrial
interest. Finish by going across the field to the old graveyard
and then down to the style which takes you back onto the road
very near to the castle.
Footwear
The field section can be a bit damp but otherwise shoes would do.
